Amby Baby Quality Policy

October 2007 - Amby Baby has gone to great lengths to ensure our products are the safest and best quality we can provide. Below, Amby Baby outlines the main components of our products and how we maintain the highest quality for you and your family.

Fabrics
Each Amby Baby is lovingly hand-sewn by our own employees from more than 40 individual pieces. In order to provide a safe chemical-free product, Amby Baby has chosen to create all our products with a breathable, non-treated fabric. Nearly 80 percent of our orders are requested in the Natural Raw Cotton which affirms our customers’ desire for natural products.

Frame
Each of the Amby Baby frame pieces are created from hand-bent steel and are measured precisely to create a solid base and assembly. For this product, we have the option of using a top tier grade steel, which is brushed smooth, or a third tier which is less expensive but also less durable. Since their first introduction to the market, all Amby Baby’s are produced with the top tier grade steel, which you will notice and appreciate with use. The weighed base is solid and will not sway with heavier babies as other light weight steels will do. As one of the strongest steels in the industry, this durable material is stronger and lasts longer than that used in a typical stroller, carrier or walker.

Surfaces
All painted coatings are tested and found negative for lead. In addition, Amby has eliminated all metal-on-metal rubbing associated with the spring mechanism. Each end of the spring is coated with rubber tubing and nylon washers separate section of the eyebolt. Each of our hammock sets include with a cover that envelopes the entire spring and eyebolt for added safety.

Safety testing
Amby Baby is a proud member of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association through which we are subject to regular testing for safety and effectiveness. We have also passed safety and regulatory testing through agencies worldwide. As a by product of our quality products, you will find that your Amby Baby will hold up for several children and can become a regular fixture in your nursery or bedside as your family grows.

Premature NICU babies find sleep in baby hammock

September 2006 - Nurses at a Minnesota hospital find an invaluable resource in the Amby Baby Motion Bed for fussy premature infants

(http://www.ambybaby.com) – Walk into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in any hospital and you’ll hear the cries of inconsolable premature babies. This is a result of the any number of ailments premature babies suffer from, requiring the patience and expertise of the nurses who tend to them daily.

Among them is Sharon McDurmot, an RN who has worked in a Minneapolis-area NICU for 25 years. McDurmot deals daily with preemies suffering from everything from drug withdrawal to infections. These illnesses often leave the small infants in a constant fussy state. Fortunately, the nurses in this NICU have discovered a bed that can sooth even the most fussy and sick preemie.

“If I have a baby I cannot calm any other way, I use the Amby hammock,” McDurmot said. “We have used it quite a bit on very crabby babies. I love it… it works very well for these babies.”

About premature deliveries
Newborns are considered to be premature if they are born before they are 37 weeks old. Although there are many risk factors that can help to predict which pregnancies are at risk for premature delivery, in most cases, no direct cause is found.

The more mature your baby is at birth, the more likely that it is that he will not have any problems, so that babies born at 26-29 weeks have a much better chance of complete recovery or with mild to moderate ailments. Babies born at 30-33 weeks usually do even better, and after 34 weeks, babies are usually only mildly immature and usually do very well. Common ailments for premature babies include various infections, jaundice, heart defects, cleft palate, and various respiratory problems including apnea and reflux.

How the Amby Motion Bed helps

The nurses said the Amby Baby Motion Bed is very effective in treating the many respiratory problems premature babies suffer from. The incline of hammock-style bed can be adjusted to suit the baby’s needs, making it easier for them to breath and sleep. In addition, the womb-like rocking motion of the hammock has also been used to sooth babies suffering from abdominal cramping which occurs after undergoing common surgeries.

Recommended by Dr. Sears for premature infants
The Amby Baby Motion Bed is also recommended in Dr. Sears’ new book “The Premature
Baby Book: Everything you need to know about Your Premature Baby from Birth to Age One.”

In his book, Dr. Sears focuses on the essential needs of babies--eating, sleeping, development, health, and comfort--and covers virtually every aspect of caring for the premature infant. A long-time supporter of the Amby Baby Motion Bed, Dr. Sears recommends the Amby Motion Bed on more than one occasion in his book as a good resource for premature babies.

Say Goodnight to Sleep Deprivation

June 2006 - One of the most common problems new parents face, sleep deprivation becomes nothing but a bad dream when babies sleep soundly in the Amby Motion Bed

Minneapolis, MN – http://www.ambybaby.com – Most new parents believe that sleep deprivation comes automatically with parenthood. Many parents spend long hours – at all hours - walking the floor with their baby. They sooth, feed, and go the extra mile on little or no sleep to comfort a crying infant.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.

The Amby Motion Bed offers a natural solution for fussy babies, specially designed to help infants sleep through the night in their first year of development – making sleep deprivation a thing of the past.

Am I sleep deprived?
If you are a new parent, you may not have had a solid night’s sleep since you brought the baby home. The recommended amount of sleep for most adults is 6 to 9 hours. If you are not getting this much sleep each night, it can leave you exhausted with little physical energy. Sleep deprived parents are more likely to be pessimistic, more prone to post partum depression, and more easily angered or discouraged. Lack of sleep also breaks down your immune system, increasing illness susceptibility, as well as impairing judgment which can lead to accidents.

Is my baby sleep deprived?
You may be surprised to learn that your baby may be suffering from sleep deprivation as well. The first month of life, baby needs roughly 16 hours of sleep each day; at three months old, baby needs 15 hours of sleep. At this age, an infant’s sleep cycles usually consist of only 50-60 minutes. That means the majority of the time they are sleeping, they are sleeping lightly enough to be woken.
By the time baby is about 4 months old, he or she should be sleeping between 6-8 hours a night. At 6 months, that number rises to between 10-12 hours and stays there through the toddler years. Through 9 months, baby will wake at least once a night.

What can you do about it?
The womb-like design of the Amby Motion Bed not only helps babies fall asleep but keeps them asleep longer. This works because the hammock provides a rocking motion as babies fall asleep. In addition, the spring responds to the baby’s own movements when they wake, bouncing them gently back to sleep. The hammock has also proven extremely successfully for babies with reflux (GER) and colic because you can adjust the incline of the bed to suit your baby’s needs.

Why a good night’s sleep is important for your baby – and you
Consistently getting a good night’s sleep can increase your energy levels, heighten your mood, and lower anxiety levels. When you and your baby are getting the sleep you need, you will essentially regain the vitality you need to raise a healthy, happy baby. In addition, a well-rested baby is a happy baby, which will improve the time you spend together. Sweet dreams!

Amby hammock overcomes infant reflux one baby at a time

August 2005- The internationally distributed Amby Motion Bed is rising to the forefront as a solution for Gastro-Esophageal Reflux (GER)

Minneapolis, MN (www.ambybaby.com) -- Two out of every three babies suffers with some level of reflux, and often parents are hard pressed to find a solution. It can be particularly troublesome for parents who don’t understand why their baby is “fussy” and incorrectly conclude it’s their parenting style that is to blame.

What is GER?
GER causes severe heartburn pain when milk and stomach acid flow backwards up into the esophagus.  Normally, gravity keeps breast milk or formula in the stomach, but when a baby lies flat, the stomach contents are allowed to “reflux” back into the esophagus.

How do you know if your baby has reflux?
Common symptoms include:
Irritability – Sudden or constant crying, pain in the stomach, chest and/or esophagus.
Poor sleep – Frequent waking or sudden waking; being inconsolable after waking.
Frequent spitting up – This can include partial vomiting, wet burps, and hiccups more than an hour after eating.
Eating problems – Choking, gagging, refusing certain foods, and eating only when tired, which can result in poor weigh gain or weight loss.
Trouble breathing – Such as asthma, coughing, wheezing or labored breathing, runny nose, congestion, frequent ear infections.

How does the Amby motion hammock help?
While many pediatricians recommend medication or diet changes to treat reflux, Amby presents another natural and simple solution. Endorsed by pediatrician Dr. Sears, the Amby hammock allows baby to sleep in a slightly upright angle. This allows gravity to keep the stomach acid and food where it belongs - in the stomach.  Baby has less acid reflux pain and enjoys a more restful night’s sleep. Any time baby does stir and squirm, the gentle bouncing movements of the Amby will lull baby back to sleep before baby fully wakens.

Some babies with GER experience pain to such a degree and frequency that antacid medications are often needed to help baby sleep. The upright sleep position and rocking motions of the Amby may be so effective that your baby may not need medication.

Another common problem for babies with GER is that their frequent reflux pain often interrupts naptime.  Long naps are not only important for babies. They are a way for tired parents to find time to relax, get some things done around the house, or catch up on much needed sleep themselves.  The Amby is a perfect way to help your baby get those long periods of sleep that benefit both of you.
